Creating Your Sacred Space
Many of us experience barriers when attempting to practice self care. Let’s face it, yoga, gym memberships, massages, and other treatments can be expensive and a lot of folks can’t squeeze an hour or more (plus commute time) into their busy schedules. But these barriers don’t have to eliminate the practice of self care altogether. Self care doesn’t have to look or be like anything that we see on social media or in magazines. And it doesn’t have to cost us loads of money like we’re pressured to believe.
A simple step that we can take toward our own practice of self care is to designate a small space in our home or outdoors where we can spend a little bit of time each day connecting with ourselves. This sacred space is ours to decide what we need. Some folks may spend this time in prayer or meditation, some may journal or visualize their dream life, some may light a candle or incense for loved ones that are no longer with them. You might place items that are sacred or meaningful to you in your sacred space. Whatever it is, make it yours; a space to practice what supports your growth.
If we can simply show up to our sacred space for even just five or ten minutes a day, we deliberately communicate to ourselves that we are choosing to show up for ourselves. We can replenish our connection with ourselves and what matters most to us. This is a gift. And by giving yourself this gift, you gift your loved ones and the world.
